Delta Rae

For Delta Rae, it’s a family thing: The Hölljes siblings (Ian, Eric and Brittany) were weaned on their parents’ classic folk and rock, their band name comes from a fictional story that their mother was going to write (Delta Rae is a Southern belle who summons Greek gods to Earth), and there’s just something sweeter about sibling harmonies. The first additional musician added to the Delta Rae fold was Elizabeth Hopkins, who helps round out the big four-part harmonies, which range from brassy and scratchy to humid and smooth. Add two more musicians and this Americana pop band draws upon diverse instrumentation—without ever sounding overbearing—on their debut, Carry the Fire. The songs offer hints of gospel, minimalist moments of singing, bursting pianos solos and explosions of poppy hooks after musical tension.
