Wild Land: Thomas Cole and the Birth of American Lanscape Painting

An exhibition about the artist's life titled Wild Land: Thomas Cole and the Birth of American Landscape Painting opens at the Brigham City Museum of Art and History. With large-scale graphics, Wild Land takes the audience on a journey with Cole as he revolutionizes American landscape painting. The artist’s genius lay in expressing the majesty, power and divinity of the natural world around him through strong contrasts of light and dark, extraordinary skies, unnerving storms, trees blasted by lightening or wind, jagged cliffs and deep thunderous waterfalls. Museum Director Kaia Landon is hopeful that artists who view this exhibit will be motivated to participate in its Utah Plein Air Juried Competition set for Aug. 23-25, 2013. For additional information, please visit the museum’s web site, call 435- 226-1439 or visit here.
