Shinohara was an important part of the Neo-Dad movement in Japan in the 1950’s. Although Shinohara has lived in New York City for over 40 years his work mainly focuses on the invasion of Western culture into Japan after World War II. His style engages with principles of Action Painting and also with pop art. Shinohara is currently in a group exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, has a feature article in the November 2012 issue of Art Forum and is on the December 2012 cover of Art News.
