Molly Gene One Whoaman Band, Hipps-n-Ricco

Molly Gene One Whoaman Band is a tour de force who has a “take no prisoners” attitude when it comes to singing the blues. Her fierce demeanor and gravelly but gorgeous voice bring a new zest to the genre—it’s music that’s fresh and cliché-free. Hailing from Warrensburg, Mo., this spunky Midwesterner is truly a one-woman band, and she somehow manages to handle a hollow-body guitar with a metal slide, an impressive homemade percussion box—that includes a snare, high hat and kick drum—and a harmonica all at once. Also performing is Hipps-N-Ricco, a blues duo based in northern Michigan. (Nicole McDonald)
