Cancelled: Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, DJ Big Wiz, Busdriver

In the music video for “Cycles to Gehenna,” a dancer (in a ballet/modern mashup style) evokes the reckless freedom that Aesop Rock rhymes about in this song about a moonlit motorcycle ride. “It was less an act of hubris/ More a lonely hearts club at the helm of a magic bullet,” Rock raps. In typical fashion, the producer and MC lodges more metaphors per pentameter than most rappers could dream of. Rock’s latest, the 15-track Skelethon, is about personal losses, including his best friend’s death, and a continual isolation from the world; it’s rife with meaning. And since Rock produced the album himself, every rightly placed note adds to that. The show features Rob Sonic and DJ Big Wiz. Busdriver will open.
