While probably best known for their roles as Farva and Mac in Super Troopers, Kevin Heffernan (left) and Steve Lemme (right) have been making comedy together for more than two decades. The pair helped start a sketch-comedy group called Charred Goosebeak at Colgate University and later, when reunited in New York City, founded Broken Lizard.
Broken Lizard performed live shows around the New York City area for a few years before focusing on scripted and filmed material. The group began to raise money and pile up credit-card debt to film its first feature, Puddle Cruiser. That led to a short stint on Comedy Central and, eventually, a deal with Fox Searchlight after the follow-up, Super Troopers, was a hit at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001. All the members of Broken Lizard, while still working together on features every few years, branched off to successful careers.
Heffernan and Lemme decided that pairing up was their best option, as they both specialize in the kind of comedy that feeds off another person. The two spent most of 2012 touring clubs, with material ranging from stories that occurred during filming of their Broken Lizard output, to pure stand-up, to the occasional Beerfest-style drinking contest with audience members.
