Golden Spike: Winter Steam Festival

The Golden Spike National Historic Site’s Annual Winter Steam Festival is a great opportunity for the public to explore the nation’s railroad heritage this holiday season. During the event an 1860’s replica steam locomotive will be displayed at the Last Spike Site. Activities during the three day event include rides on the park’s historic handcar and 1950’s motorcar as well as cab tours of the locomotive. Young visitors can become Golden Spike Junior Rangers by completing a short workbook and then receiving a ranger badge and certificate. The park will also be showing films during the festival including “America, the Story of Us” which covers the beginning of westward expansion through Reconstruction and Industrialization.
