Utah Symphony: Holiday Celebration

With the hectic holiday season ever pushing you forward, heading toward a frenzied state that feels like it may become horrifically permanent, it’s time to take a breather and head to Abravanel Hall for the Utah Symphony’s holiday concerts.

The first chance for a re-energizing respite is a special Holiday Celebration with Bravo Broadway. Featuring a diverse cast of celebrated guests—including American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones, Broadway sensation Doug LaBrecque (best known from his turn in The Phantom of the Opera) and West Jordan High School’s Concert Choir, led by Kelly DeHaan—this holiday show will have a mix of traditional and modern favorites, everything from O Holy Night to Baby It’s Cold Outside. The best part is that after hearing similar tunes thousands of times through overhead speakers everywhere, you’ll finally hear the Utah Symphony give them the classical-pop treatment they deserve.

If, on the other hand, you’re desperately seeking the best way to avoid spending hours snaking through queues in overcrowded malls, Utah Symphony also offers its annual family-friendly Lollipops Series, aimed at families with little ones ages 5 to 12. Here Comes Santa Claus features holiday classics from around the world, including sections of the seasonally appropriate Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite. But, best of all, the concert is held during the day, so the kids are more willing and alert, filled with anticipation for the magical moment when Santa stops by to spread his unique brand of symphonic holiday cheer.
