Joshua Payne Orchestra CD Release Show

The Joshua Payne Orchestra—which varies from two or three members to around 10, depending on the gig—was developing a wilder aesthetic, as a trio, at their weekly Sunday gig at Bar-X. They wanted to capture these crazed sounds and experimentations, so, this summer, the trio (with Ron Harrell on upright bass and Dan Thomas on drums) stepped into Man vs. Music recording studio for two all-day sessions, and laid down 30 songs in total. “It was really intense. At times, our minds were completely gone—but in a good way,” Payne says. “I feel like our raw soul was able to shine through.” For Ra Ra Ra, Joshua Payne Orchestra narrowed it down to 12 tracks—six originals and six re-imagined covers. And it’s noisy, bombastic and fresh. To hear three tracks and read Payne’s stories about them, visit CityWeekly.net to read the Liner Notes blog. The Numbs open the show.
