GriZ

“This business—when you boil it down—is not about the machine, but about the man. Even electronic music is humanistic. We breathe life into these dead things to make them whisper and ROAR!” wrote DJ/producer Grant Kwiecinski, aka GRiZ, at his website, MyNameIsGRiZ.com. The beatsmith/saxophonist is all about connection, and he’s achieved two artist/fan-related milestones this past month. On Nov. 30, Beatport streamed a live-in-studio session of GRiZ, and the number of listeners hit the high-water mark for the website for the second half of the year. And then the next day, in his new town of Boulder, Colo., GRiZ performed his first headline gig at the Fox Theatre, which sold out in six hours; the show was equipped with a full-on lightshow and production. Furthering this connection theme, at his website, you can download a free copy of his latest, Mad Liberation, which is full of glitchy funkiness and synthy grooves.
