Abstract Rude

The Pickle Factory, located in the Granary District, has been many things—artist %u2028collective, theater, music venue, party spot, a haven for DIY projects and so on—under myriad owners. And the dive-y DIY space has come into another vision under new ownership. Hilary Barrett and her family bought the building, along with several other %u2028historic warehouse buildings on the block, this summer. Barrett immediately began to host shows with live bands and DJs on the patio behind The Pickle Factory. And when fall rolled around, Barrett and her team opened an indoor venue, which merges live music and visual art, two doors down: The Salt Haus. The Halloween Party, which served as the official launch, was a huge success with 400 people in %u2028attendance. And now they’re breaking ground with Los Angeles-based rapper/R&B singer/pro skateboarder Abstract Rude. While the underground hip-hop lyricist hasn’t dropped much of note in recent years, some of his mid-2000s work solo or with Haiku D’Etat and The A-Team shows off the MC at his finest; it makes a trip to this historic ’hood a no-brainer. The Kleenerz are also on the bill.
