Festival of Trees

During the holiday season, people’s thoughts often turn to those who may not have as much to celebrate, or who are in need. Among the many ways to help in Utah, few have become as much of a tradition—and make the act of giving so entertaining—as the Primary Children’s Hospital annual fundraiser, the Festival of Trees. For more than 40 years, individuals and organizations have donated and decorated trees to be enjoyed by visitors looking to get into the holiday spirit; for 2012, more than 700 trees are scheduled to be part of the display hall. But the event also serves as a kind of one-stop holiday boutique, with wreaths, outdoor decorations, greeting cards, centerpieces and many other Christmas-themed items available for purchase. Kids will find plenty of entertainment, including a gingerbread village, face-painting, a playhouse area and, of course, a chance to visit with Santa. Add music and other performances, and it’s an event that feels good for every possible reason. (Scott Renshaw)
