Weird musical connections abound this week. Christian Wargo—Poor Moon’s chief songwriter—and Casey Wescott both played in Pedro the Lion years ago; David Bazan, Pedro the Lion songwriter, performs that band’s Control at another venue tonight. Wargo and Wescott both play in Fleet Foxes, and shared a stage with Josh Tillman (Father John Misty, at The Urban Lounge on Saturday) in that band for three years. Weird. Anywho, strains of both bands can be heard in Wargo’s songwriting, although he’s come into his own with this band of friends—also including brothers Ian and Peter Murray—who huddled together because of a mutual love and respect for Wargo’s tunes. On the self-titled 2012 release, the songs boast attention to detail; waves of nuanced notes; warm, earthy tones; and big, beautiful
harmonies. Local support provided by Cory Mon.
