The Helio Sequence likes City Weekly—they really do—and, OK, SLC at large. They were hunkering down at home in February 2010 when we asked them to headline the City Weekly Music Awards; without hesitation, they said, “Yes!” And we really like them, too—and not just because they like us. The Portland, Ore.-based gearhead duo aren’t afraid of being spontaneous and open in their songwriting. And their fifth full-length album, Negotiations, released this year, stays true to that, though they’ve dropped much of their beloved digital doohickeys and adopted vintage analog gear for a warmer, deeper sound that is like a bowl of chili for your ears.
