A television stalwart since the 1950s, The Price Is Right is perhaps the most familiar game show to American audiences, right up there with Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Although Barker was perhaps the best-known host, he took over the post from Bill Cullen and finally turned over the high-profile position to Drew Carey in 2007 after an amazing 35-year run. Now, the celebrated game has jumped out of the static television set and gone on tour with an energetic live, interactive version.
Just like the show you know, audience members are called upon to play some of those classic games—like Plinko and Cliffhangers—in order to get the chance to spin the Big Wheel. Then, of course, there is the big finale, the Showcase Showdown, in which three contestants come up with the closet bid, without going over, for an entire group of prizes—often including lavish cruises, cars and complete rooms of furniture with highly varnished wood veneer. An ordinary person, picked at random from the studio audience, becomes the winner who now owns jet skis and a washer and dryer set.
Of course, with all the fun to be had and the blinding excitement that comes with winning prizes, don’t forget to spay and neuter your pets. (Jacob Stringer)
