Utah State History Conference: Ogden’s Mardi Gras of 1890

The combination of the words Mardi Gras and Utah don’t seem to ring a bell. However, in 1890, Utahns brought the hootenanny of a holiday to the city of Ogden. As part of the opening for the Utah State History Conference, Keynote speaker, Val Holley will present “Krewes, Cowboysm and Cultural Conundrums: Ogden’s Mardi Gras of 1890.” The speech will talk about this almost forgotten event that attracted an assemblage of the most colorful characters Utah has seen. In addition to Valley’s speech, Board of State History, Michael W. Homer will present this year’s Utah State History Awards.
