This year’s X96 Big Ass Show’s rump got fat off of funeral potatoes (meaning Utah bands, not cheese). Provo’s own Neon Trees, Orem-formed The Used and Las-Vegas-by-way-of-Provo Imagine Dragons add local weight to a robust lineup of national touring acts Grouplove, Awolnation, Eve 6, The Wombats and Dead Sara. X96 forgot to fill one slot (wink wink), so they held a competition for an emerging local band. After votes were tallied, five bands duked it out at Graywhale Music in Taylorsville, and Shrink the Giant emerged victorious.
