Hung at Heart has been a real pain in the ass to release, says Growlers frontman Brooks Nielsen. The California band ventured to Nashville to record their brand of capricious surf-rock and reverb-y psychedelia with Dan Auerbach as producer. Although The Black Keys guitarist recorded the initial material, according to an OC Weekly blog post, he didn’t stay on board, and the band eventually recorded in their own studio for the forthcoming 15-song album (Nov. 13, Everloving Records). And it was a pain in the ass to even choose those tracks. The band is epic at songwriting. “We record a lot of music”—approximately 70 songs before entering the studio with Auerbach—”we have the opportunity to record a lot in our studio, but the industry isn’t set up to release music that quickly,” Nielsen says. Suffice to say, they have much material to draw upon at tonight’s concert—it could be a long one. FL KILOS and Spell Talk provide local support.
