The Head and The Heart

Much of this Seattle neo-folk sextet’s self-titled debut was recorded in 2010, soon after the band met at an open-mic night at the Conor Byrne Pub. They have continued to write new material, veering from stories of traveling and moving (“Rivers & Roads”) to more autobiographical terrain, but the tunes have only been showcased live. However, the Fuel/Friends blog put some of the new songs on tape during their Chapel Sessions back in May. “Gone” will appeal to fans of the quieter, strumming ballads, while “Fire/Fear” is a real kicker, and the untitled track offers up punchy piano and tense moments. It’s a sure sign of good things to come for a follow-up album. Blitzen Trapper and Bryan John Appleby round out the lineup.
