Kishi Bashi follows in the path that Andrew Bird paved with his violin virtuosity layered and looped for a symphonic-sounding solo concert. Bashi is decidedly weirder, though; and he’s in good company: The violinist provided strings on of Montreal’s Paralytic Stalks and has toured and recorded with Regina Spektor, Sondre Lerche and Alexi Murdoch. Yet, Bashi is fine without company. The avant-pop composer played and produced his debut, 151a, by his lonesome. And listening to “I Am the Antichrist to You” or “It All Began With a Burst,” you’d think there were an indie symphony backing him.
