International Folk Festival

During the summer months, ethnic festivals of all kinds come to venues throughout Utah, generally offering a focus on the music, cuisine and arts of one or perhaps a few cultures. For the fourth year, Sandy Amphitheater provides a summer showcase that expands the vision a bit, turning a single night that flies the cultural flags of multiple ethnicities.

The International Folk Festival brings folk groups from throughout Utah to one night of energetic and colorful performance, highlighting the music and dance of the represented cultures. This year, groups representing the Philippines, Germany, Scotland, Russia and Ukraine are among those scheduled to appear, turning the South Valley into a miniature United Nations. And in case that’s not enticing enough, the event is free on a first-come, first-served basis. If you’re already missing that Olympic multicultural spirit, here’s a chance to keep it alive a bit longer this summer. (Scott Renshaw)
