Kite Festival

The annual Kite Festival held at Daybreak is the culminating event of South Jordan’s International Days, a weeklong celebration of world cultures. As such, each participating group—this year featuring performing ensembles from Colombia, Costa Rica, France, India and Siberia—comes together with handicrafts and food in tow for one last dance.

The day before the evening’s closing ceremonies is spent flying kites. This year, the Utah Kite Fliers Association and the Utah Asian Communities will feature several workshops on how to make and fly kites, and then put on some mean demonstrations on how to race and fight the new creations. There will also be several kite parades, with critical judging of the best kite in show. New this year is a special collection of Mokuhanga prints and kites made out of washi paper from the Kyoto International Woodprint Association. (Jacob Stringer)
