When I caught AU’s multi-instrumentalist Luke Wyland and drummer Dana Valatka at the first annual Treefort Music Fest in Boise this spring, it was pure gold. The Portland, Ore., duo wrap their sounds around a math-rock framework to form a double helix of epic proportions, as heard on their most triumphant effort to date, Both Lights. It offers a bit of freak folk, art pop and irresistable dancey weirdness. Fellow City of Bridges residents Tu Fawning also hold their own with a concoction
of broody indie rock intricately layered by bandleaders and multi-instrumentalists Joe Haege (Menomena) and Corrina Repp.
