I’ve heard a good many reasons why an artist can’t do an interview, but Sam Beam (the man behind Iron & Wine) takes the cake. His publicist said he couldn’t interview in June 2011 because he was busy taking care of his flock of children (who can only hope to one day live up to their father’s beard). If Beam is as good of a father as he is a bandleader, those kids will turn out OK. Iron & Wine’s last stop in town in support of their most recent release, Kiss Each Other Clean—a divergent effort from his sleepy folk-rock filled with African and Jamaican rhythms and ’60s and ’70s pop influences—had a full band clocking in at around double digits to fully articulate new songs like “Half Moon” and “Me & Lazarus.” Kathleen Edwards opens the show.
