The Rose Exposed is a special full-day event celebrating the work of six regular Performing Arts Coalition tenants of the space--Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation, Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, SB Dance, Repertory Dance Theatre, Plan-B Theatre Company and Pygmalion Theatre Company--as well as frequent renter Spy Hop Productions. From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., you can get a free sampling of offerings from every one of these amazing organizations. Bachauer and Plan-B join forces for a musical performance of Tchaikovsky's Peter & the Wolf; Ririe-Woodbury offers a parent/child dance workshop; Spy Hop showcases short films by student filmmakers; Pygmalion and Plan-B present staged readings. And that's only a little of what you'll be able to see.
That same evening, the organizations join forces for two performances of a variety show with a tantalizing taste of each group's work. Plan-B presents an excerpt from Eric(a), a world-premiere play from the upcoming season, while Pygmalion gives us a selection from its revival of DeeDee Darby-Duffin's amazing performance as Billie Holiday in Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill (pictured). Also, enjoy dance performances by SB Dance (Of Meat & Marrow), Ririe-Woodbury (Turf) and RDT (Gamut), plus Kary Billings' piano performances representing Gina Bachauer. The only hard part will be knowing which full performance to experience next. (Scott Renshaw)
