As the first playful piano notes build up to the chorus of “Kindergarten,” it’s hard not to think that the Brooklyn band’s second release isn’t going to be a fantastic rock & roll hayride. Then comes the line that sort of sums up Major: “All I know/ I learned in kindergarten,” which was partially inspired by playing “Chompers” for a classroom of gleeful, jumping kindergarten students (check the video out on YouTube). Fang Island kept that sentiment and took it into the studio to make for an 11-song fun and joyous listen. The band describes their music better than a critic could: “Everyone high-fiving everyone.”
