Josh Ritter & The Royal City Band, Joe Purdy

Singer-songwriter Josh Ritter says he started—recently active again after a year on hiatus—because he saw “a real lack of firsthand advice on making a life in music. ... You see, making a living doing something you love isn’t only about making a living (in fact for many that’s not even a possibility), it’s about making a life.” Ritter drives this point home when he reveals later in the May 9 post that just a few weeks before, he’d had kidney failure and was laid up in the hospital. Unable to write, he was instead rewarded with visits from his extended family that a career in music has given him. “It drove home to me just how huge the Life part of making a life in music really is,” he continued. No singer-songwriter embodies that “Life” spirit as much as Ritter. Check the blog for more insight, and look out for another novel and album on the horizon. Joe Purdy opens the show.
