Utah County boasts the state’s big-name spectacle with America’s Freedom Festival. The July 3 Balloon Fest and July 4 Grand Parade in Provo are just the opening acts leading up to the Stadium of Fire the evening of July 4, headlined by American Idol’s Scotty McCreery and the reunited Beach Boys before the fireworks extravaganza.
In Salt Lake City proper, Sugar House Park hosts its annual day of entertainment and music (acts TBA) July 4, with a 30-minute fireworks display at 10 p.m.; the west side finds Jordan Park (1035 S. 900 West) hosting its regular July 4 carnival and fireworks. Magna (Copper Park, 8941 W. 2600 South), Sandy (Sandy City Hall, 10000 Centennial Parkway) and West Jordan (Veterans Memorial Park, 1985 W. 7800 South) also plan festivities, including parades, kids activities and fireworks.
The hills are also alive with the sound of explosions, including an opportunity for an early start on your Independence Day revelry as Canyons Resort hosts a July 3 concert headlined by The Soulistics and a 9:30 p.m. fireworks show. Then on July 4, Park City hosts its own parade and day of activities in City Park, with fireworks at Park City Mountain Resort. That smell in the air will be freedom—and maybe more than a little ozone. (Scott Renshaw)
