Classic roots/swamp-rock megastar John Fogerty, 66, has released nine solo albums since the split with Creedence Clearwater Revival—a messy breakup filled with rights disputes, where he refused to play CCR tunes (he’s playing them again, though). He even refused to play with his old bandmates when they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Drama aside, Bruce Springsteen summed up this bard’s rock history fairly well during the induction ceremony: “As a songwriter, only a few did as much in three minutes [as John Fogerty]. He was an Old Testament, shaggy-haired prophet, a fatalist; funny, too. He was severe, he was precise, he said what he had to say and he got out of there.”
