Indebted to the progenitors of dance-party mashups like Z-Trip, Girl Talk certainly isn’t doing anything new with his Top 40 whirlwind of splicing and dicing; he doesn’t even use a mixer, so it comes across as gimmicky—not a true-to-the-game DJ. That said, he is one helluva party maestro, making an arms-in-the-air, ass-shaking, ear-throbbing good time, which includes all the mess of flesh he invites onstage to join his sweaty self (he perspires so much, he has to cover his laptop with plastic wrap).
