There are Battles of the Bands, and then there is the Tournament of Champions. It’s been like a WWF Royal Rumble meets a music marathon at The Basement. Across 20 concerts over three months, the all-ages venue has hosted prelim editions in general music malarkey and metal mayhem. Each of the two categories saw 24 bands—48 in total—battling it out in a bracket-style championship tournament scored by a panel of judges. For the finals, four bands in each category made the cut and will enter the Thunderdome, with the two grand-prize winners emerging to claim $500, recording time at The Basement’s studio and, of course, O-Town bragging rights for a year.
