Damien Jurado is a painter—literally. Oh, OK, and in the cliched painting-pictures-with-words sense, too. On his website, DamienJurado.com,
he sells a Pop Art-inspired acrylic four-piece series, Sugar, depicting milk-related cartoon iconography. For Jurado, making a record in the studio is like painting—it’s capturing a moment in time. And playing concerts, performing the same songs over and over, is like printmaking—a medium that doesn’t interest him. He’s known for not being excited about touring, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t find some joy in it, or that concert-goers can’t either, especially since they get to hear the fresh tunes off of Jurado’s 2012 release Maraqopa. Peter Wolf Crier opens the show.
