The candy-coated samples and sweet, melodic static of Alan Palomo’s Neon Indian caught the attention of chill-wavers on his debut, Psychic Chasms. Those mild-mannered hipster-music enthusiasts then, no doubt, loved his return, the follow-up Era Extraña. Similar to genre contenders like MGMT and Wavves, Neon Indian’s direction this time around is more resolute and less coarse. The sound is still sonically similar to ’80s childhood memories after a run through the dishwasher, but with a tighter composition and a halogen-colored tone. (Zack Renner)
