Some bands release EPs because they have leftover tunes from a record, and others to sate desirous fans. Martin Sexton released Fall Like Rain this year because, the troubadour says, “these songs are relevant, and I didn’t want to wait.” Including Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth,” the EP has Sexton questioning the status quo with his velvety, versatile voice, as he’s been wont to do since his fledgling days busking in Harvard Square. Aside from political innuendos, Sexton puts on a fun live show—fitting for this Schlittentag—“sledding day”—shindig. Monophonics will start things up with a heavy dose of California funk.
