Lost in the Trees

The album cover for A Church That Fits Our Needs is a photo that hung above Lost in the Trees composer/writer/frontman Ari Picker’s desk as he wrote that 2012 ANTI- release. It is a picture of his mother, who took her own life in 2009, and this album is a compositional cathedral built in her honor. “I wanted to give her a space, in the music, to be and to become all the things she didn’t get a chance to be when she was alive,” Picker says. And that fact just adds more depth to the release, which, on its own, is a conceptual indie-chamber-rock delight, with delicately woven arrangements that, at times, soar. A Church That Fits Out Needs will certainly be at the top of many critics’ top-albums list come December 2012, as was the case with All Alone in an Empty House in 2010. Poor Moon opens the show.
