Is there something in the Rocky Mountain water that helps grow fine bluegrass and jamgrass bands? Hailing from the home state of such bands as Yonder Mountain String Band, Leftover Salmon, String Cheese Incident, Elephant Revival and more, Head for the Hills has led the pack as of late. Voted Best Bluegrass Band in the Westword Music Showcase Awards in Colorado in 2010 and 2011—no small feat in such fertile acoustic
environs—the designation came after the Drew Emmitt-produced (Leftover Salmon) self-titled album in 2010. But, more likely than not, fans voted because of their ruckus in concert, where no foot goes without stomping to the acoustic bogeying and loose harmonies of the band’s progressive acoustic tunes. Dead Winter Carpenters open the show.
