Don Carlos

Waterhouse, Jamaica, native Don Carlos has been around the reggae block and back. His 30-year career has included his fledgling days with vocal group Black Uhuru and an extensive solo career; therein, he has been spreading his messages of consciousness, righteousness and enlightenment—or something hazily resembling that. And after too many instances with music-biz swindlers, he’s gone DIY with his 2011 release Changes. “I don’t have a favorite producer because all of them are reducers. The whole of them are pirates,” Carlos told UnitedReggae.com. Changes offers some fresh material alongside a few covers, like the title track, which was recorded to pay respect to another reggae legend, Dennis Brown. Fyah Wyah and Wasnatch are also on the bill.
