Michael Grant: BZRK

If the best-seller lists—and the growing contributions by Utah writers—are any indication, young adults have moved on from romances and fanciful heroic adventures to dark tales of dangerous futures. Author Michael Grant has already contributed to the publishing industry’s epidemic of dystopias with his Gone series, focusing on a world in which everyone over the age of 15 disappears from a California town, leaving an enclosed world of kids developing strange powers. And you thought middle school was rough.

Grant’s latest novel, BZRK, again ventures into a place where young people become part of a battle for the very fate of humanity, homework and curfew be damned. But this battle is unlike any other that has come before: The weapon of choice is now nanotechnology, and the soldiers in this battle often don’t know who’s a friend and who’s an enemy. Join the author for a reading and signing event, and for a chance to learn about his plan for an interactive adventure continuing the battle for the future online. (Scott Renshaw)
