The outdoor alternative arts & crafts fest Craft Lake City, entering its fourth year, is sponsoring workshops to teach some do-it-yourself crafts and encourage people to get involved in creating their own handmade items. The second workshop in the series features Holly Jones of Say Hello (SayHelloShop.com) taking participants step by step through the process of making miniature cardboard-cutout chandelier decorations in colors appropriate for Valentine’s Day.
The event starts with a tour of current exhibits at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, including Sundance New Frontier videos and Kim Schoenstadt’s paintings, which are inspiring to anyone with a creative urge. After the class, students will leave with something of their own to hang up at home. It’s a great way to get an experience of making something with your own personal touch, and possibly even a Valentine’s gift with more thoughtfulness than the standard Hallmark card. (Brian Staker)
