The acoustic pioneer/innovator David Grisman recorded his first album in 1963 when he was just a wee 18 years old. That was when he was still figuring out how to forge two classically American musical art forms—jazz and bluegrass. Now, nearly a half century later, Grisman has recorded and produced countless albums, and has added more to the acoustic-music catalog than nearly any other musician. Although he’s a revolutionary, in DGBX he returns to his old-timey bluegrass roots and is joined by a talented cast of five characters to get all “front porch” on some traditional tunes.
