A Lull

[CW Music Pick} With 1,300 official band showcases at the 2011 College Music Journal Music Marathon, it must’ve taken a mighty fine performance to grab New York Times chief popular-music editor Jon Pareles’ attention. Chicago-based five-piece A Lull stood out of the fog, with their warm synth fog of a sound, and received one of few Pareles’ acknowledgements. For good reason: The 2011 releases Confetti and Confetti Reprise were near sonic masterpieces, at least within their genre-bending brand of attention-to-detail tunes rife with creative electronic meanderings, quizzical percussion—they used trash from the adjacent hallway while recording to fill in the space left by not recording with cymbals—and enigmatic lyrics. Deleted Scenes and Nurses share the bill. Kilby Court, 741 S. Kilby Court (330 West), 7 p.m., $8
