People might talk about heading up to the mountains and hitting up one of the resorts to see skiing demos and competitions as part of the year-end celebrations. But as anyone who has tried to do can attest, getting up to resorts to check them out—while dealing with often treacherous roads and weather—sometimes just doesn’t seem worth it unless you’re a die-hard fan.
So rather than take the time heading to the hills, the hills have been brought to you. VitaminWater and Maverik teamed up in sponsorship to bring you EVE Air, a snow-filled area outside the Salt Palace for those wishing to see the slopes. Taking over West Temple between 100 and 200 South, 50 tons of snow will be shipped in and dropped onto the city street to form a competition slope.
While in previous years, residents have seen the same kind of demonstrations, they were confined to smaller areas. This one will take up up half the length of a Salt Lake City block to accommodate fans and skiers alike. All three EVE nights will see two 90-minute demos and competitions (including a bonus hour on the 31st) with some of Utah’s best skiers and snowboarders. If it’s anything like 2009’s, expect to see surprise guests and maybe even a couple of giveaways—not to mention some of the sickest tricks you’ll ever see performed downtown.
