From opening day—when the produce is sparse but everyone’s excited just to be there—through the lush harvests of fall, the Downtown Farmers Market in Pioneer Park is the gathering place for all things local. Thanks to hundreds of hard-working, passionate growers, producers, chefs, craftspeople and the Downtown Alliance, the market has evolved into a vibrant, community-building wonder.

The Farmers Market also signifies Utah’s growing artisan-food clout. Heard of Creminelli Fine Meats? Utah-based Cristiano Creminelli’s naturally cured salamis are revered from Seattle to Manhattan. Finally, he’ll have his own booth at the Salt Lake City market this year.

According to market director Kim Angeli-Selin, we can look forward to a slew of other new vendors, as well. Heritage Valley Organics will be selling its organic poultry. Look for jars of local jams and preserves blended with surprising treats, such as Amano chocolate, from Butcher’s Bunches. You can get hand-cut artisan pasta made with local ingredients from Nu Nooz Artisan Pasta. Two Smokin’ Bettys are cooking prepared sauce to go (possibly to enjoy with that artisan pasta). India Pantry will offer pure spice blends packaged in reusable tins. And for dessert? My Dough Girl will be peddling her original cookie doughs and cookies. For prepared food, there will be thin-crust, wood-fired pizzas (cooked in 90 seconds flat) from Sure Fire Pizza. Also look for Chef Daniel Cantu’s deliciously healthy Cantu’s Culinary Creations. Personally, I can’t wait to meet the energetic guys from Naturol Fuels who will whip up vegan pancakes and bike-powered smoothies.

Bike, car and veggie valets will be back this year as will the Tuesday-evening produce market.%uFFFD
