If you’re a character from your neighborhood who believes in community, then you can get involved and learn about a Salt Lake City plan to protect neighborhoods of character. To further prove you give two shits about your community, you can get out and vote because it’s Election Day. Later, check out a free breakfast put on by nonprofit Bad Dog Arts, which is looking for help promoting arts among youth.

Historic Landmark Commission
Thursday, Nov. 3
Get historical at this city meeting where commissioners will be considering a citywide proposal on how to protect neighborhoods of character. When one thinks of iconic SLC hoods like 9th and 9th or 15th and 15th, people think of local, unique, historical charm—not big-box sameness. That’s why the commission will be discussing Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker’s proposal for a framework to decide on what constitutes a “character-conservation district.”

Election Day
Tuesday, Nov. 8
Vote, you bastards! It’s the least you can do as a citizen of this country and as a resident of your local community. The Revolt means that literally—it’s the least a citizen can do, to cast their vote for the leaders to represent them. If you’re in Salt Lake City, you can refer to our election guide (see p. 18) for insights into the contested races. Then go out and do your part for democracy.
