Utah Opera

Much of the pleasure of Utah Opera comes from the attention to detail, particularly the sumptuous colors of their costumes that adroitly work with the music to sweep audiences up into the full force of the operatic musical storm. Finally, though, it’s the passion of their singers that melds everything together. When Utah Opera’s at the top of its game—which is more often than not—it touches your emotions in a way that no other art form can. Regina (Jan. 17-25), Marriage of Figaro (March 14-22) and Don Pasquale (May 16-24). Capitol Theatre, 50 W. 200 South, 355-2787

Utah Symphony
While guest conductors this season have offered the Utah Symphony the opportunity to ponder life beyond the good-looking charms of exiting baton-maestro Keith Lockhart, the range of music on display—whether it’s Broadway hits, Mahler or Sibelius—yet again confirms the breadth of the symphony’s musical palette. Lockhart signs off with his finale on May 30. There won’t be a dry eye in the house. Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, 533-5626, UtahSymphony.org.
