City Community Celebration

It isn’t often that you get a chance to visit a time in local history before Utah was accepted into statehood. But then with our once-polygamous ways, it took a few at-bats. An annual event celebrating Utah’s historical buildings and the eras when they were built centers on the Fisher Mansion, built in 1893. German immigrant Albert Fisher, for whom the home was constructed, was a beer magnate, head of the Fisher brewery that was at one time as much a household name as Busch or Coors. Architect Richard Kletting also designed the Utah Capitol.

The day’s events include barbershop quartets, brass bands, croquet, and booths featuring German fare: sausage, soft pretzels, popcorn and root beer. Come back in the evening for a beer garden on the mansion grounds, courtesy Red Rock Brewing Company. They really knew how to live back then, and you can party like it’s (almost) 1899.

City Community Celebration @ Fisher Mansion, 1206 W. 200 South, May 15, 1-4 p.m., Beer Garden, 5-9 p.m.
