We’re not saying you have to start working blue into your wardrobe or show up to any meetings on Sundays, but if you’re a Utahn who hasn’t jumped on the Jimmer Fredette bandwagon yet, what’s wrong with you? Everybody outside the state is already enthralled with the guard who has led BYU to a Top 10 ranking while leading the nation in producing points. The talking heads on ESPN can’t get enough of the guy. Kevin Durant, the leading scorer in the NBA, recently tweeted, “Jimmer Fredette is the best scorer in the world!”
Even if your educational and/or religious proclivities make it so that you could never come within a million miles of rooting for that school in Provo, you’ve got to admit, Jimmer is a ton of fun to watch. He’s got an ankle-breaking crossover move, there’s no angle or distance he won’t launch from, and he fills up the hoop, scoring 40 points or more in three recent games. And, oh yeah, did we mention his name is Jimmer? The only way you can’t love all of this is if you’re a Ute fan who’s bitter about yet another “rebuilding” year, or a Jazz fan who still isn’t ready to admit it’s yet another season where the team is playoffs good but not NBA Finals good.
If nothing else, you should be thankful that, at this time of year, Jimmer is bringing nationwide attention to Utah for something other than some of the crazy things our state legislators are proposing.
