Club Jam

Pump, Pump the Jam

By Colin Wolf
POSTED // Jun 7,2012 - On the gayest night of the year at the gayest bar in Salt Lake City, a spot like Club Jam (751. N. 300 West) is guaranteed to throw one super gay party.

Party Monster

Six non-lame party ideas that won't lose you friends or alienate people.

By Colin Wolf
POSTED // Jun 6,2012 - It’s a given that people love throwing parties in the summertime. But if I get dragged to one more ’80s party, I’m gonna go Mr. T on some unsuspecting fool. I say this because there are sooo many other options besides wearing ’90s gear, dancing to ’90s music and saying it’s an ’80s party. It’s wrong and it’s lazy! So, in an attempt to be part of the solution, I’ve consulted some experts and came up with this short list of party possibilities, all of which sound a lot better when you’re drunk.

Jackalope Lounge

Cheap drinks & optimum people-watching

By Colin Wolf
POSTED // May 31,2012 - For optimum people-watching, I suggest a bar that prides itself in cheap drinks, good bar grub and a clientele that changes by the minute. On May 26, I ended up at Jackalope Lounge (372 S. State) for a couple of hours and, for some strange reason, I was hanging out with a Disco Stu doppelgänger, a crew of wasted Armenians, a dude in a bike helmet and a metal band that could have been Good Charlotte. This bar is like a cozy bag of weird, and that’s what makes it so darned special. Not to mention there’s local legend DJ J2 spinning funk and hip-hop every Saturday. With $3 Jager and $2 Jim Beam shots and $1 High Life longnecks, there truly is never a dull moment at this downtown joint.

History re-enactors protest 21st century

By Colin Wolf
POSTED // May 30,2012 - In the heart of a red rock canyon just outside of Moab, on a recent May weekend, a cavalcade of cars are making their way to a campground on a strip of land that hugs the banks of the Colorado River. The entrance to Kane Springs Campground is marked “private,” with a small painted sign taped to a fence post that reads “SCA.” Typically, you’d find off-road enthusiasts, hikers and mountain bikers flocking to this scenic locale. But on this particular weekend, the campground has been transformed from a grassy field to an ancient realm, populated by medieval knights, archers, dancers, artisans and nobles.

The Garage

A Total Eclipse of the Jorts

By Colin Wolf
POSTED // May 24,2012 - There’s something insanely enjoyable about watching hipsters dance in jorts to Daft Punk at a biker bar. Last Sunday, the jorts were on full display during the inaugural Groove Garden party at The Garage

Dick N' Dixies

Your friendly neighborhood bar

By Colin Wolf
POSTED // May 17,2012 - Whenever I get shnockered in a bar like Dick N’ Dixies (479 E. 300 South), it always makes me wish I lived downtown. I would probably walk or Razor Scooter myself to this bar immediately after work,

Maxwell's SLC

A Late-Night Pizza Party

By Colin Wolf
POSTED // May 10,2012 - Remember back in the day when you would do the Tootsie Roll at first mention of a pizza party? Oh, yes you do, and for most of us this enthusiasm hasn’t wavered with age.

The Green Pig Pub

Sundays are the new Saturdays

By Colin Wolf
POSTED // May 3,2012 - As you probably know, we are full swing into day-drinking season

Bar-X

Landmark locale with a classy upscale feel

By Colin Wolf
POSTED // Apr 26,2012 - In 2011, when Bar-X (155 E. 200 South) got new owners and a face-lift, there was a small but vocal group of SLCers who bitched and moaned because the place expanded its menu beyond cold Buds.

Karamba

Pachanga Night in Sugar House

By Colin Wolf
POSTED // Apr 19,2012 - I like to imagine that Latin pop star Pitbull’s ideal night at the club would involve neon-clad go-go dancers, Red Bull & vodka, dem-bow bass lines and lasers—lots of lasers.
