The Question & Big Sky Tribunal

Gavin Sheehan

Aside from the awesome release show earlier this week at Slowtrain with The Platte, last week was a bit off for local music being put out. Now we're back on track this week with two new CD's on different days.

Wolfmother/Heartless Bastards Review

Dainon Moody
It’s been about 24 hours since Wolfmother played our spot on the map and, well, the most telling thing I can get across is this: my ears are still ringing.

Gotta Have Heartless

Jamie Gadette
It's only a matter of time before Heartless Bastards is headlining the same Salt Lake City venues where they've opened up for the likes of The Avett Brothers (Red Butte Garden). Not to knock their tour mates, but this Cincinnati-bred, Austin-based act deserves more props than simply the critical adoration they're consistently served. We'll keep fawning, though, and City Weekly readers can expect to see more glowing reviews from Dainon Moody who will be attending tonight's gig with Wolfmother at The Depot. Tickets are still available here.

New Music Tuesday!

Jamie Gadette
I'm not sure if I love Them Crooked Vultures because of the music or because of the members who compose this rock "supergroup." Typically, I'll purchase anything involving Dave Grohl and Josh Homme - John Paul Jones is just the icing on the cake. This trio's self-titled debut made its way to the illegal filesharing stew last week and, rather than throw a fit, Them Crooked Vultures simply posted the LP on YouTube to stream in its entirety. Hopefully enough music lovers still prefer to own a copy of the physical release. It's in stores today.

Oh boy, oh boy what a weekend for live music and art! 4 O'Clock Shadow Tour Blog: Day 2

Jamie Gadette
Local hip-hop artists Pat Maine (aka Kinnetik), YZE and MC Pig Pen are currently on the road representing Utah's scene. While touring is considered somewhat of a given for SLC rockers, it's less common for emcees/DJs to take frequent out-of-state trips to promote their skills. Some say it's more difficult to book hip-hop shows and to jump on bills with rappers who are fiercely territorial. We'll be following the 4 O'Clock Shadow Tour and wish the threesome good luck.

Los Angeles @ The Airliner

The third stop on our 4 o' Clock shadow tour featuring MC PigPen, Pat Maine, and YZE. If no other states/venues/scenes could prove to you that the love of hiphop in it's raw form is still very alive "The Airliner" did just that. The show took off with a momentum that did not stop until the very last performance was over. Special appearances from Percee P, and Double K from People Under The Stairs, and live art from the "Axe Murderer." Most of the artists were on tour from all over the country, there were a few LA locals holding it down. Urban Underground Productions were there reporting on the local scene. We were very welcomed and supported by the crowd, who definitely vocalized if they were unimpressed—once again establishing the vibe that "The Airliner" is surely a proving grounds of up coming artists. Stay posted Salt Lake.
