SLC Zombie Walk

by Gavin Sheehan

Tomorrow you’re probably going to be hearing a lot of Oingo Boingo downtown as hundreds of undead enthusiasts prepare for our own dead man’s party.

Sunday evening marks the second annual SLC Zombie Walk. If you didn’t get the idea behind it, here’s a short break down. Dress like a zombie, go to the starting point on the map below, walk down the street, get strange looks from anyone who doesn’t know what’s going on, celebrate at Trolly Square (how fitting to celebrate at a mall). No better way to spend the day of rest than being “dead” and hunting for brains.

Last year was a success, but it could have been bigger, and I know as a community we can do it. People from out-of-state are making a trip just to do this, and if they’re willing to drive here just to walk around in tattered clothes and makeup, you should to! Plus, let’s be honest, the chances of Salt Lake City getting a Halloween parade of any kind are slim and none for various reasons. The Zombie Walk is one of the few chances in a calendar year you can dress up in the most gruesome looking costume you can and NOT get hassled! Even if you don’t participate, its still worth going to watch.

As of this post you’ve got just over 24 hours to get everything together, which is fine, your average zombie costume takes no more than an hour on average. Unless you’re aiming for style points and we can't fault you for that. Several costume instructions can be found online. For those of you looking for a challenge, dress up like a normal person trying to fend off the zombies, get attacked and then turn into a zombie yourself. Check out the video below for highlights from last year's event. Head out, eat brains, and have fun!
